I am looking at a 1999 John Deere 425 Garden tractor with a 54 inch deck the guy selling was asking 5600$ but told me to make him an offer. The tractor has 198 hours on it so what would be a good offer to make him on this tractor

If the 425 only has 198 hours on it, I would say $5600. is not a bad price. I have a 445 with 1900 hours on it and it still runs great.

You do have a little premium from low hours but the book brings it in at about $4500. I'd do about 4800 for a top value. ....

One of the things we have found is the used compacts are cutting into the resale value of the garden tractors market especially the super series or the 400 series as JD uses. ....
